Presenter's Bio:

Conal completed a BSc in Psychiatric Nursing, a Post-graduate Certificate, Post-graduate Diploma and MSC in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with Trinity College, Dublin. He has practiced CBT in different settings including an Adult Psychology service in the HSE and an acute psychiatric unit meeting and treating a variety of mental health problems with varying complexity.

Conal also worked in research during this time in the Dept. of CBT in Trinity College Dublin for just under 2 years. Here, with a Consultant Psychiatrist and CBT expert he developed an online teaching tool to teach therapists CBT skills through role-play based simulation. He is a visiting lecturer on the CBT post graduate programmes.

In 2020, Conal established the CBT Dept in the Coombe Maternity Hospital as well as his private practice in Castleknock. He is currently completing his Doctorate in Psychotherapy in DCU. OCD and mood disorders (anxiety and depression) are his special interest area. He also has a keen interest in complex treatment resistant mental health presentations and the philosophy of psychotherapy.


Workshop Outline:

The following topics will be explored:

  • Common Disorders- Symptoms & Assessments & Clinical Limitations
  • GAD- Model & Treatment (10 minute break out)
  • Specific Phobias- Model & Treatment (10 minute break out)
  • Health Anxiety- Model & Treatment (10 minute break out)
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder- Assessment, Model & Treatment (10 minute break out)
  • Q&A

The workshop includes the most up to date literature and research regarding the development of clinical skills in CBT. Clinical vignettes are used throughout to demonstrate how to practice these skills.

Participants can have access to clinical tools/resources and assessments following the seminar if they wish. Engagement in the workshop is desirable but not mandatory.
