Developing Your Trauma Toolkit Sat 17th & Sun 18th February

This 2 day interactive, theoretical & practical workshop will introduce the central principles of trauma-informed practice & help therapists & mental health practitioners develop confidence in working with clients’ trauma.
Combining current trauma research, experiential exercises, skills practice & using a somatic approach, it will explore some of trauma’s neurophysiological aspects, develop familiarity with interventions that address these aspects & aid the practitioner in developing a trauma toolkit.
Course Content: The two days will incorporate two trauma models to explore:
· Key components, sources & symptoms of psychological trauma;
· The three stage approach to working with trauma and the therapist’s role in each;
· The importance of regulation and how to use it in therapy;
· Fight/Flight/Freeze/Collapse responses;
· Some dynamics of attachment/developmental trauma;
· Trauma’s brain-body link & relevance of using the body in working with it;
· The importance of the therapeutic relationship using a polyvagal lens
· Some stage-specific practical skills and interventions to help clients regulate and to begin to both process and integrate their experiences safely

Delivery: Presentation, facilitator-led fishbowls & experiential exercises. Breakout rooms will be used for skills practice. Full handouts provided
