Marie Percival is an accomplished professional who works as a practitioner, academic and researcher, in the field of psychology and psychotherapy and is the author of the Psychology of Counselling, published by Routledge, in April 2023.

Over the past two decades, Marie has worked in various mental health services.   Professional commitments lead to her dividing her time between Ireland and the United Kingdom. Prior to pursuing a PhD in Health Psychology in 2009, she worked as a psychotherapist with diverse populations in various settings, including community, private practice, and nonprofit organisations. Professional development is a priority for Marie, who has completed further studies in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, Positive Psychology/Positive Psychotherapy, as well as Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Marie provides consultancy and advisory services on mental health and wellbeing to corporate and charity organisations.

Victim Assistance is in existence since 2005, having formerly been known as Victim Support.  Its head office was located in Co. Kerry but in 2018 relocated to Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo.  We are a registered charity (CHY No 20062927) that offers emotional and practical support to victims of crime and trauma throughout the country and also those who may have witnessed a crime.  We also support family members of crime and trauma.

Event Outline:

Losing a loved one to homicide is a devastating experience that can leave individuals and families grappling with overwhelming grief, confusion, and a profound sense of loss. In the face of such tragedy, support and understanding are crucial for healing and rebuilding lives shattered by violence. It is in this space that AdVIC, a compassionate charity organisation, stands as a beacon of hope, offering solace and empowerment to those bereaved by homicide.

AdVIC which stands for Advocates for Victims of Homicide, is a charity  organisation dedicated to providing support for individuals and families navigating the complex journey of grief after a loved one's life has been taken by an act of violence. With a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by those affected by homicide, AdVIC offers a wide range of services, resources, and support to help individuals find their way forward.

In addition to direct support, AdVIC is a powerful advocate for the rights and well-being of those bereaved by homicide. The organisation raises awareness about the unique challenges faced by this community, advocating for changes in policies and systems to ensure justice, support, and prevention. Through their tireless efforts, AdVIC strives to create a society that is more compassionate, understanding, and responsive to the needs of those affected by homicide.
