SERC - Introduction to LGBT+ culture and client needs in psychotherapy
Presenters Bio:
Alan is an accredited Psychotherapist with IACP and Lectures in Psychotherapy with IICP college. Alan has a background in software development and working in the corporate information technology industry for 13 years, before returning to college to retrain as a psychotherapist. Alan now works in private practice with a range of client issues, but has as special interest in working with gender, sexual and relationship diverse clients.
Workshop Outline:
Areas covered in this course include an introduction to the following topics:
• LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) culture
• Sexual and Gender identities• Use of pronouns
• Global and Irish public attitudes towards the LGBT+ community
• Issues specific to LGBT+ clients
• What LGBT+ clients want from therapy
• Learning / teaching methods that will be used e.g. lectures, workshops, tutorials etc.
• Online lecture• Discussions
• Breakout rooms (depending on number of attendees)
• Self-reflection elements
CPD Certs will be emailed to participants after attendance at the Event
