DRC - Gender and Sexual Diversity in the Counselling and Psychotherapy Space
Presenters Bio:
Jim Hutton first trained as a group and couple’s counsellor in 1980 with Stanhope Street Alcohol Treatment Centre, Dublin. He received his diploma in counselling at NUI Maynooth in 1999 before working for 21 years with Youthreach, the state’s agency for second chance education. He has a BA (Hons.) in counselling and psychotherapy. Jim has served as chairperson of
the gender and sexual diversity group for IACP and is currently a member of
the IACP’s recently formed Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Committee
Workshop Outline:
This presention aims to provide an introduction to LGBTI+ Headline History, both National and International.
To offer insight and preparation for the inclusion of Gender & Sexual Diversity work now or in future individual practice. To outline the Importance of “role” and “language use” in the therapeutic space.
To highlight common fears, perceptions and misconceptions in this area in the therapeutic space.
To provide further resourcing information and contact details for same.
• Learning / teaching methods that will be used e.g. lectures, workshops,
tutorials etc
• Live, Face to Face presentation using a combination of Keynote
presentation format
