SERC - The Presence of Shame in the Counselling Room

Presenters Bio:

Fergus Carey is a family man with a passion for rugby and hiking. In 2008 Fergus moved from a career in Engineering to Counselling and holds the belief that the best qualities in counselling is not in the training alone but in the love, resect and value therapists show to their clients. Fergus also attributes the nurturing presence of a spiritual connection as a great support to his practice.

Workshop Outline:

Shame is often present in the counselling room. It can be a significant contributor to many of the present issues of our clients such as depression, social anxiety, eating disorders and other disorders, causing emotional distress, anger, and self-loathing in the life of the client. this workshop proposes to examine; what is shame? and its associated emotions, how shame effects men and women? how shame effects our behaviour and way of being, how it might present in therapy and the therapeutic approaches to shame.
