The SAOR eLearning programme must be completed in advance of this one-day skills practice training

Please note – you will not be able to attend the training if you have not submitted your certificate in advance as proof of completion of the eLearning module.

Aim

This course aims to prepare Counsellors/Psychotherapists to deliver Screening and Brief Interventions (SBI) for problem substance misuse. 

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Apply the theory from the SAOR online module to their practice
  • Identify opportunities to conduct a brief intervention
  • Demonstrate appropriate brief intervention skills using the SAOR model
  • Identify appropriate alcohol and other drugs care pathways

Course Content

The key course content which emerges from the course learning outcomes is outlined below:

  • Alcohol and drug related presentations to health and social care settings.
  • Overview of the SAOR model of intervention for problem alcohol and drug use.
  • Establishing a supportive working relationship with the service users.
  • Asking about alcohol and drug use and screening for alcohol and drug related problems.
  • Delivering a structured brief intervention based upon the SAOR model.
  • Developing appropriate care pathways for service users and arranging appropriate follow up.
  • Accessing useful links and reference materials for further reading and research.

Date of Training: Friday 19th November on Zoom

Time: 9:30am to 12:30 and 2pm to 4pm

Requirements: Accredited Status. Access to a laptop, One laptop per person, One person per room, and internet access for training activities.

Also in preparation for the Screening and Brief Interventions for Problem Substance Misuse Training you must complete the SAOR E-Learning module on-line. This will take you about 90 minutes to complete.
The link to the on-line module will be provided to registered partcipants.
