The background:
The increasing presence of culturally different beneficiaries in European health services constitutes an important challenge for the effective delivery of care. Cultural competence has been proposed as a general approach for improving these services. Staff should be aware of the role of culture in shaping diversity, in the perception and communication of illness and diseases, and in the relationship with the beneficiaries.
The Training Methodology:
This four hours-two sessions long workshop will introduce the participants to a range of contents related to intercultural competences in mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). The training will encompass 5 modules which will be delivered using multiple methodologies such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, moderated breakout sessions and dialogues with mental health professionals and cultural anthropologists from Syria, Lebanon, Romania, Brazil and Egypt. Each module will provide room for Q&A. Active participation is highly encouraged.
