Presenters Bio: Ravind  (MIACP) Born in Dublin, is a psychotherapist and the founder of Talk Therapy Dublin, Inspired primarily by his client work but also by personal & family experiences, Ravind has developed a specific interest in Culturally Sensitive Counselling and minority stress, he trained at the Nafsiyat Intercultural Therapy centre in London.

Workshop Outline: To encourage reflection & exploration on culture & diversity & and its role in therapeutic process in a modern Irish context. Self exploration of bias, stereotype and unconscious prejudice & racism. Identifying culturally sensitive ways of working with diverse clients. Developing the skills to "journey" with multi ethnic clients for example working with "third culture children" (those reared in a country neither parent is from). 

 

Number of voices and minority perspectives will be heard during the workshop from the following:

Salome Mbugua from Akidwa a leading NGO highlighting the issues faced by migrant women in Ireland.

Thomas McCann from the Travellers Counselling Service.

Abeer Younis – Palestinian/Israeli artist now living in Ireland
