Outline: Circle Dancing has been part of the traditional culture of every nation and can be secular and non-secular and is a communal expression of human creativity. As such, it is often performed alongside music, singing, painting and storytelling. Often, a story lies behind a circle dance and dancers’ imaginations and energy levels are stimulated with rhythmic metaphorical actions, and uplifting music.
Modern Circle Dancing mixes traditional folk dances with recently choreographed ones. The dances use many different styles and rhythms, including classical music and contemporary songs and can be slow and gentle or energetic. Modern Circle Dance is low impact and slow motion, using a few basic steps and arm movements. Circle Dancing has been shown to have a number of health benefits. This evening will include a talk on Circle Dancing and its healing potential followed by an opportunity to learn three dances.
Please wear sensible shoes for the dance session.
