Presenter:  Professsor Ivor Browne is respected both for his personal compassion and his consistent opposition to orthodox psychiatry. A fellow recipient from Harvard University in Public and Community Mental health, Dr Browne was Professsor of Psychiatry at UCD and Chief Psychiatrist of the Eastern Health Board until his retirement. The Author of many academic articles, Professor Browne conceived and established the Irish Foundation for Human Development and set up the first Community Association in Ballyfermot.  An offshoot of this had sucessful outcomes in the City of Derry working with rebuilding a Community encountering conflict.  Professor Browne\'s bestselling autobiography \'Music and Madness\' give a deeply moving accoun t of his life, work and aprofessional development.

Outline: This interactive Workshop will: Explore and discuss the somewhat uneasy relationship between orthodox psychiatry an d the application of the main psychotherapeutic models in Ireland to-day.
