Working with Lesbian & Gay Clients

 

Presenters Bio's: Stephen Vaughan works as a psychotherapist, supervisor and trainer and has completed a Masters thesis on "Working wtih Lesbian and Gay Clients".

 

Workshop Outline: The main focus of this workshop will be on helping therapists to better understand the different aspects of working with LGB clients, as shown in research, which are; (1) to have a clear understanding of modern frameworks of sexuality; (2) to develop a very clear understanding of the coming out process and to have familiarity with a model of coming out; (3) to understand what is homophobia and internalised homophobia; (4) to develop an affirmative psychotherapy approach to working with LGB clients that will help therapists to work more effectively and help clients to feel better understood and more open towards therapy. A large element of the workshop will include experiential learning.
