Dublin Workshop Committee
Present a workshop entitled:
Mindfulness: Eastern & Psychodynamic Perspectives
Presenter: Dr. Michael (Michelo) DelMonte
Dr. DelMonte was born in the Hague but completed his education in Dublin. He has primary degrees in Genetics and Psychology, as well as a HDip Ed, a research MSc and a Doctorate-all from TCD. His doctorate was on the psycho-physiological, personality, mindfulness and other aspects of meditation. Michael later obtained a M Psych. Sc in Psychotherapy from UCD. Michael has conducted individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy in St Patrick’s University Hospital and at St Edmundsbury hospital (where he was Principal Psychologist) for the past 30 years. He also lectures in Psychology at TCD. In 1990 he was co-founder in Tokyo of “The Transnational Network for Physical, Psychological and Spiritual Well-Being”. Michael is a collaborator with and personal friend of John Kabat Zinn who introduced mindfulness meditation to the USA
Outline: In this one day Workshop Dr. DelMonte will explore Mindfulness from both an Eastern and Psychodynamic perspective. Michael was an early exponent of the practice of meditation and mindfulness in Ireland. He has continued to utilize this over his long and distinguished career. The emphasis of the workshop will be on the practical application of mindfulness theory and the workshop will appeal to-and hopefully enlighten-therapists and counselors working in this area with their clients.
